New Private School Option in NYC: Meet BASIS Independent Manhattan

New Private School Option in NYC: Meet BASIS Independent Manhattan

Between Montessori, Waldorf, progressive, traditional, child-led and more, it almost feels lately like parents are, themselves, expected to have a degree in education to understand and navigate the educational options available to their child and NYC private school admissions.

Not to mention that once you have actually decided which school seems to be perfect for your child, there is another craziness you have to go through. They say, that in NYC it’s harder to get into PreK than to Ivy League. You have to start planning in advance.

BASIS Independent Manhattan, a new K-8 option opening fall 2017 on the Upper West Side just very well may make you give up your school search for good.

In what will be the fifth campus, BASIS Independent Schools takes the guess-work out of what good education looks like with a clear focus on readying students for the skills they need to excel in whatever it is they pursue: skills like an unparalleled foundation in all academic disciplines, but also skills like collaborative problem-solving, connection with others, self-direction, and empathy.

Surprisingly, this type of focus on life skills and inclusion of subjects like Mandarin, engineering, project based learning, the arts, disciplinary sciences, logic, and economics (to name a few!), all taught by professionals with subject expertise, in a culture where everyone believes students can learn at high levels, is, in fact, an innovation in the context of the landscape of schools around the U.S. – and even the world.

It is for this reason that the BASIS network of schools was chosen as the first case study representing the United States for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)’s new PISA4U platform, an online, global, collaborative learning program for school improvement.

The recognition of the program as a proving ground for best practices in education is something that students benefit from daily. Says one parent of two young students who attend their PreK-12 Brooklyn campus (which has quickly become a top private school in Brooklyn),

Many schools offer a competitive academic environment, but ultimately the focus on cultivating students’ sense of independence, ownership and, above all, interest in learning helped us choose BASIS Independent Brooklyn for our kids three years ago. It’s a decision we would make all over again today!

As if it didn’t sound great enough yet, did we mention that tuition is, in some cases, almost half that of other top NYC private schools?

Lucky for you, the month of April is filled with great events to learn more about what they are offering to NYC families:
