5 best places to try matcha latte in NYC

I’m a little obsessed with matcha. Its delicious vibrant flavor, its rich color. It’s even better than chocolate and coffee. And with a combination of milk… it just feels like they were made for each other. Perfect match.

Thanks God we live in New York. And here, they know how to make green tea latte. And I don’t mean Starbucks. There is plenty of places.

Pretty soon one of my friends is coming from Kiev to visit. And she definitely is a matcha devotee.

Thus, I decided to make a little list. A special list just for you, Rita!

Best matcha places I’ve tried in NY

1. CHALAIT

Located in the heart of West Village this tiny neighborhood cafe (or I’d say a bistro, because they do serve a simple breakfast) offers a huge variety of matcha beverages. And a must try is matcha jam. Interesting combination. Too sweet for me, though worth trying.

2. MATCHABAR

Now this place is a bit different. To start with, it’s in Williamsburg Brooklyn. Along with classic matcha drinks they offer very unusual cold drinks. For example, a combination of matcha and watermelon is audacious, but surprisingly good!

3. MATCHA CAFE WABI

This cute to go cafe is nested at the Lower East Side. In addition to vegan matcha latte, they have a wide selection of matcha flavored baked goods. The one on the picture is rice flour steamed mochi. It’s flawlessly fabulous.

4. IPPODO TEA, NEW YORK

The best soy matcha latte I’ve ever had. I don’t know what more to add 🙂 You just HAVE TO GO AND TRY IT.

First of all, this is a very ceremonial and classy place. They pay a lot of attention to details. What I loved the most is, that they are very open to explain you all the history of matcha. They also offer workshops for $30. Unbelievable experience.

5. ARGO TEA

A coffeehouse chain and a retail store. There are multiple locations all over the city. Nothing too special. Except green tea latte with coconut milk. Awesomely refreshing and healthy. And fairly easy get-at-able.
