Best ever Gluten Free Play Dough Recipe
There is plenty of play dough recipes in the web. But as always, we tried them all, chosen the best and slightly modified it.
So. First of all it makes a perfect white color. So you can get a perfect color, when you add natural colorants.
You will need:
1 Cup rice flour
1/2 Cup Cornstarch (and 1 tbsp)
1/2 Cup Salt
1 tbsp Cream of Tartar
2 tsp coconut oil
1 cup hot water
2-3 drops of grapefruit seed extract
Mix all dry ingredients together in a medium pot.
Add coconut oil, water and continue to mix until smoothly combined.
Heat the pot on the stove over low heat for about 3 minutes. Continue mixing.
When the dough starts to pull away from the sides easily it’s ready!
Put it on parchment paper. Let it cool for a while.
Add GSE and any desirable colors.
For pink I use beetroot juice. 1-3 tbsp depending on what color you want.
For green — spinach juice. Orange — saffron. Yellow — turmeric. Well, experiment for your own colors!
Now a little bit of explanation.
Why I use coconut oil? Because it’s antibacterial. And this dough you can store in ziplock bags or plastic containers for 6 month. So you can imagine how many bacterias would like to live there peacefully. And then we add GSE. So, no bacteria — guaranteed.
Also it always need a little more starch. So take it in a consideration, when you make it. P.S. I always add a little vanilla extract. Just to make it smell better. But I wouldn’t recommend using vanilla with kids younger than 3 y.o. They will simply eat it. 🙂
