Ultimate style guide for modern big city moms

So I’m not a mom yet, but one day I totally plan on being one.  Not to mention a stylish one.  ?

That’s why I wanted to write this style guide for all of the modern moms in New York.

I have lived in Manhattan for most of my life and I know a thing or two about style. I think it’s really important to leave the house (or the apartment, in most of us New Yorkers’ cases) feeling both comfortable and confident in our outfits.

I know if I leave the house feeling insecure about my outfit choice, I will not be as productive as if I had chosen something that makes me feel like I can conquer anything the day throws at me. And let’s face it, the days aren’t always easy, but our outfits should be. Long gone are the days of over accessorizing, less is more, and yes you too can have this “model off duty” chic air about you. No, you did not read that wrong, and you’re welcome.

So here it is, my first style post on how to stay chic in NYC without the fuss.

First you will need an amazing pair of jeans, which almost everyone I know has at least one pair that they love.

Fit is key

Your jeans don’t have to be super tight skinny jeans, BUT they should make your butt look good!!  Boyfriend jeans are the best because they are fitted where it counts and loose enough to literally do anything in.  Cuff up the bottoms if yours are full length and pair with any basic flat (or chic sneaker) and you’re halfway there.  Add pumps in any neutral color to go from day to night. Very supermodel chic.

Now for the top.

Crazy prints are not really my thing and can go out of style quickly. I definitely like the unexpected fashion-forward fashion, but that is for another post. Choose your top for the fit first rather than the color, etc.

Once again – Fit is key

In everything that you wear, remember that!  So what that your top is $500 Dolce & Gabbana? If it fits poor it’s going to look cheap and ugly. There is no reason to pay $500 for a top and feel bad about it. A simple tailored button down (there are so many kinds out there) is perfect.

Okay.. getting there!

Pair the above top with your jeans and shoes. Feeling like a supermodel mom yet? Good.

Last but not least is your bag choice!

Being that you’re a mom I know that your bag probably always has something for the kids in it. Whether it be snacks, toys or change of clothes, etc. This is totally fine (and cute) but I would choose a bag that does not have a childish print on it (no giraffes, please)?. Pick something more mature and just stuff all your mommy stuff into it. It’s a bag and serves the same purpose so we are all good, no?

By now you should be feeling really good about yourself! And for the days ahead with this article in mind, it will take you a shorter amount of time to get dressed than it did for you to first read this post ?

Now please go out and conquer the world (I mean day), because you look and feel amazing, not to mention you are comfortable in both your own skin and your outfit. I promise you, someone will compliment you today and yes, it’s okay to blush a little! You look good embrace it!!
